Maurice (Maury) was born on October 25,1926 in Bagdad, Iraq to Joseph and Najeeba Beshouri, the third oldest of nine surviving children. Maurice was raised in Bagdad and attended King’s College before emigrating to the United States in 1947. He joined his older brother Edmund in Detroit, Michigan. Maurice graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While a student Maurice worked as a draftsman for the J.N. Fauver Company, a privately-owned business which supplied hydraulic and pneumatic systems for the automobile industry. Maurice attracted the attention and sponsorship of the company owner and upon graduation Maurice was hired as an engineering salesman.
At that time, Detroit was a hip and happening place. In the 1950’s Maurice regularly attended dances sponsored by the local Catholic church. There he met Joyce Thiell. Their first date was a Detroit Tigers baseball game where they sat in the outfield bleachers. They married on April 21, 1956 and were parents to three children, Greg, Sharon and Debbie while residing first in Dearborn and then Grand Blanc, Michigan. Joyce and Maurice later moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they retired. In 2004 they moved to Houston, Texas to be near Sharon and her two daughters.
Maurice enjoyed a very successful 35-year career with the Fauver company, rising in the ranks from sales to management to eventually taking a leadership role. In 1987 he assumed the position of President of Air-Draulics based in Phoenix, Arizona and retired in 1990. When not working, Maurice and Joyce shared a love of travel, music and dancing throughout their life together. Maurice was also an avid golfer and found business could be done as easily on the links as in an office. Maurice also served as president of Spring Meadows Country Club in Linden, Michigan and Warwick Hills Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan. In retirement Maurice continued to play 18 holes of golf weekly until he put away his clubs at the age of 84. Family members and friends all fondly remembered Maurice as a happy and upbeat person who cherished family gatherings with all the relatives. Maurice and Joyce were devout Catholics who were active in parish life at the churches where they were members, most recently at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Houston.
